So it seems the tech industry has finally cracked doing virtual reality, or something very close to it. For the past three or four months I’ve seen and heard so many notable video game critics and developers fawn over the Occulus like it’s the return of jesus.
And while it certainly looks cool and has a tremendous amount of potential, the pessimist sci fi fan in me sees a future where no one leaves their house, constantly jacked into this thing. I’ve heard enough annecdotes of people sitting on the toilet using their laptop or their phone to make me think this is a potential future.
Horrible theorhetical futures aside, let me leave you with a video featuring Mythbuster’s Jaime Hyneman using the Occulus and talking about some application outside of video games.
